Changing the norms of communication

The transparent interface Rælclear is a device that connects all forms of human-to-human communication.

01 Enjoy communicating while observing facial expressions

The transparent interface Rælclear is placed between you and the person you are facing, and a transcription system is used. When you speak to the person facing you, the voice input from the microphone to the PC, tablet, or smartphone is converted into text, which is displayed on Rælclear, the second monitor. Because Rælclear has high transparency and can be viewed from both sides, one can read the text-converted conversation content while looking at the expression and gestures of the person speaking, which improves the listener's understanding. This is highly valued as a communication aid not only for the deaf, hard of hearing, and those with APD/LiD, but also for the elderly.

02 Facilitating communication between different languages

By using the translation function of the transcription system, it can also be useful for communication between people with different native languages. As global communication expands, it can be a great help in cross-language communication.

03 Supporting more understandable information presentation and space design

The high transparency of Rælclear is also expected to be applied to AR-like uses. By placing Rælclear between not only people but also objects and landscapes and displaying information and effect images associated with them, it will possible to create a production aimed at increasing value.

Rælclear Used at Multiple Venues for “World Subtitle Exhibition in Tokyo:Making Communication Accessible Everywhere”

This case study is based on insights gained from an on-site visit conducted on December 2, 2025.

From November 15 to December 7, 2025, “World Subtitle Exhibition in Tokyo”, JDI transparent interface Rælclear was installed at multiple facilities as one of the display solutions for “YYSystem,” a communication support application developed by AISIN CORPORATION (hereinafter referred to as “AISIN”).

This event was organized by AISIN as part of the “Subtitles the World” and took place across multiple locations in Tokyo, the host city of the Deaflympics. Subtitles were provided in public transportation facilities, commercial complexes, and other venues. The event was held as a participatory initiative with the aim of creating a society in which everyone can access information with confidence, including people who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as inbound visitors and others who may face barriers with audio-only communication. This initiative was implemented at more than 80 locations throughout Tokyo, where smooth communication was enabled through the use of subtitles and translation technologies. Among these, we visited two facilities to learn how Rælclear is being utilized.

1. YOMIURILAND

At YOMIURILAND, which welcomes a wide range of visitors from both Japan and overseas, Rælclear was installed at the information counter and the central ride ticket office. In particular, a 20.8-inch Rælclear was used at the information counter and was utilized to support communication with international visitors. According to the staff, “While we do have some employees who can assist in English, the number is limited. In situations where it is difficult to provide support, we make use of Rælclear.” Through Rælclear, we felt that visitor guidance was being provided smoothly and effectively.

2. TOKYU PLAZA HARAJUKU “HARAKADO” Lemonlife Co., Ltd

At LEMONLIFE WORK&SHOP, a select shop attached to the design company Lemonlife Co., Ltd. on the 3rd floor of HARAKADO, a new landmark in Harajuku, a 12.3-inch Rælclear was installed at the checkout counter. According to the staff, “Given Harajuku’s location, HARAKADO attracts a large number of international visitors, so we frequently use it when communicating with overseas customers.” The shop also sells clothing, and they commented, “It’s helpful because even brief conversations—such as while staff are folding clothes and placing them in bags at the register—are displayed in text.” Through these uses, we felt that Rælclear is being effectively utilized as a catalyst for communication.

At the two facilities we visited on this occasion, Rælclear was primarily used to support communication with international visitors. At YOMIURILAND, it was utilized as a means of accurately and reliably conveying information, while at Lemonlife Inc., it was used as a catalyst for fostering mutual understanding through dialogue. In addition, we felt that the use of Rælclear also provided a sense of reassurance for staff, enabling them to assist customers without concern for language barriers. As a transparent display for presenting speech-to-text and automatic translation applications, JDI will continue to support face-to-face communication through Rælclear and contribute to the realization of an inclusive society in which everyone can participate.

Rælclear Featured as a Universal Communication Solution at TOKYO 2025 DEAFLYMPICS and Showcased at MiruTech.

In alignment with the 25th Summer Deaflympics Tokyo 2025, held from November 15 to 26, MiruTech took place at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center. The event showcased innovative digital technologies aimed at fostering connections among people, regardless of nationality or ability.  JDI presented its transparent interface, Rælclear, at the event.

When paired with software, Rælclear is designed to be placed between two people, displaying real-time transcriptions or translated text from speech. This creates a new communication experience, allowing users to follow conversations while still seeing facial expressions and gestures through the transparent interface.   The event attracted not only deaf athletes but also numerous members of the press and visitors, generating strong interest and positive feedback. Through this innovative solution, JDI proudly supports the DEAFLYMPICS’ vision of fostering an inclusive society.
